Using the App

Starting the App

Once the app loads, your camera will be available immediately to start scanning. You will also see a toolbar at the top of the screen that houses the app functionality. Here you can

  • view your previous scans and see unscanned assets
  • select your scan location
  • verify your login information

Selecting a location

You have two options to select a scan location

  1. Scan a location decal
    • These are the barcodes tying the room to STARS, usually displayed near the door
  2. Enter the Location manually
    • Select the building and room by tapping the Locations button and searching for your room

Scanning an asset

After you have selected a location for your scan, you can point your camera to the barcode, QR code, or Data Matrix to scan the asset to the selected location. If you are using an infrared scanner add-on, follow the hardware instructions to scan the code.

We recommend this infrared scanner if you are considering purchasing additional hardware.

Once you scan an asset you will see a popup with the current asset image and information.

Taking Photos

Once you have scanned or selected an asset, you will see the Photo button show up in the app header. Bring the asset into your camera's viewport, and click the Photo button to snap a photo of it. If you are happy with it, you can upload the photo to the database to be the primary photo for that asset.

Managing Assets

Once you have scanned an asset, it will appear in your scanned assets list. You can access the details popup any time by clicking the asset section in this list. If you scanned an asset that was previously in the unscanned asset list, it should be removed from there. If you are not happy with your scan, you can delete it by hitting the red trash can button to try again. To access more information about the asset, click the blue asset link attached to the asset's tag number to be taken to the myAssets page for that asset. Once you are happy with your scans, you can submit them by clicking the green Submit button at the top of the page. You will be prompted to confirm, and then the scans will be sent to the database.

If, for whatever reason, your scans are unable to be submitted (such as in the result of a poor internet connection), they will still stay in your scan queue for you to send later, even if you close the app.
